Why is speaking American English so difficult?
Many European and Eastern languages have only five vowel sounds, while American English exceeds twice that many. The vowel sound “aww” is not found in many other languages. So when non-born speakers use this vowel in words like “bought”, they often change the vowel for a vowel sound that Americans do not recognize when heard.
How long does accent modification take?
Successful accent modification takes time and practice. A person with a mild accent will accomplish their goals faster than a person with multiple sound differences will take much longer as they will need to develop muscle memory for several sound variation production.
